Commission exams reward depth. Start with the official syllabus and the last few years' question papers, which TGPSC usually publishes on its website. For a state commission, give real time to the state's history, geography, economy and current schemes, which ordinary general studies books cover thinly.

Selected candidates serve a probation period, often two years for officer posts, and get the usual government benefits: dearness allowance, house rent allowance, leave, medical cover and a pension scheme.
