Where the 8th Pay Commission Stands
The government announced the 8th Pay Commission in January 2025 and approved its terms of reference in late 2025. Its recommendations, the fitment factor and the date the new pay takes effect have not been announced.
Until then, every figure for 8th Pay Commission salaries is an estimate. This calculator shows the effect of a factor you choose, using today's 7th CPC pay matrix.
What the Fitment Factor Does
The fitment factor multiplies today's basic pay to give the new basic pay. The 7th Pay Commission used 2.57, which took the lowest basic pay from ₹7,000 to ₹18,000.
At a factor of 2.28, a Level 1 basic pay of ₹18,000 would become about ₹41,000, and a Level 6 basic pay of ₹35,400 about ₹80,700.
When new pay scales start, DA has usually been reset to zero, because the new basic pay already absorbs it. So the fair comparison is the new basic pay against today's basic pay plus DA.
Worked Example: Three Levels at Three Fitment Factors
These factors are examples from the range being discussed, not an announcement. Today's basic pay plus DA uses DA at 58%, the central rate from 1 July 2025. Figures are before the rounding a pay commission applies.
| Pay level (starting basic pay) | Basic pay + DA today | Factor 1.92 | Factor 2.28 | Factor 2.86 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Level 1 (₹18,000) | ₹28,440 | ₹34,560 | ₹41,040 | ₹51,480 |
| Level 6 (₹35,400) | ₹55,932 | ₹67,968 | ₹80,712 | ₹1,01,244 |
| Level 10 (₹56,100) | ₹88,638 | ₹1,07,712 | ₹1,27,908 | ₹1,60,446 |
At a factor of 1.92, a Level 1 employee's new basic pay of ₹34,560 is about ₹6,100 more than today's basic pay plus DA. The real gain depends on the factor the government accepts and on allowances, which are revised too.
