Age Calculator for Govt Jobs
Enter your date of birth and the age rules from the notification to see whether you are within the age limit.
Within the age limit
Your age on 1 Jan 2026: 23 years, 7 months and 17 days.
With an upper limit of 27 years, you must be born between 2 Jan 1998 and 1 Jan 2008, both dates included.
Relaxations for ex-servicemen, central government employees, widows and others vary by notice and are not included. The notification is the final word.
How Age Limits Work in a Notice
Every notification gives a minimum and maximum age and the date on which age is counted, often the first day of the year or the closing date. What matters is your age on that date, not on the day you apply.
Notices usually state the limit as a range of birth dates, for example born not before 2 January 1999 and not after 1 January 2008. The calculator shows the same range for the limits you enter.
Standard Upper Age Relaxations
| Category | Extra years | With benchmark disability |
|---|---|---|
| General and EWS | None | 10 years |
| OBC (non-creamy layer) | 3 years | 13 years |
| SC and ST | 5 years | 15 years |
These are the usual central government rules. Ex-servicemen, central government employees, widows and divorced women and some regions get further relaxations that vary by recruitment, so check the notification.
Worked Example
A post needs candidates aged 18 to 27 on 1 January 2026. A general category candidate must be born between 2 January 1998 and 1 January 2008. An OBC candidate, with 3 more years, can be born as early as 2 January 1995.
Frequently Asked Questions
If I turn 28 on the cut-off date, am I eligible for an upper limit of 27?
No. An upper limit of 27 years means you must not have completed 28 years on the cut-off date.
Does EWS get age relaxation?
Not under the standard central rules. Some states give EWS candidates relaxation in their own recruitment.
Which certificate proves my date of birth?
Usually the Class 10 certificate or mark sheet. Recruiters go by the date printed on it.
