Enter your basic pay and the DA rate to see your dearness allowance, and compare it with a revised rate.

DA is filled in at 58%, the central rate from 1 Jul 2025. Change it if a newer rate applies.

Basic pay only, without allowances.

A revision is usually paid from 1 January or 1 July, with arrears for the months before it is announced.

₹20,532 a month in DA

At 58% of a basic pay of ₹35,400, DA comes to ₹20,532 a month, or ₹2,46,384 a year.

DA on transport allowance is paid at the same rate and is not included here.

What Dearness Allowance Is

Dearness allowance (DA) protects pay against rising prices. For central government employees it is a percentage of basic pay, set from the All India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers.

DA is revised twice a year, with effect from 1 January and 1 July. Pensioners get the same increase as dearness relief (DR) on their pension.

How DA Is Calculated

DA = basic pay × DA rate ÷ 100. On a basic pay of ₹35,400 at 58%, DA is ₹20,532 a month. DA is also paid on transport allowance at the same rate.

When the rate rises by 3 points on the same basic pay, DA goes up by ₹1,062 a month, or ₹12,744 a year. If the revision is announced three months after it takes effect, the arrears come to ₹3,186.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the DA hike announced?

The January revision is usually announced around March, and the July revision around September or October. Both are paid with arrears from the effective date.

Is DA added to basic pay?

No. DA stays a separate allowance. When a new pay commission's scales start, the pay matrix is revised and DA usually restarts from zero.

Do state employees get the same DA?

Each state sets its own DA rate. Many follow central revisions, often a few months later.
