RRB NTPC Graduate Exam Pattern: CBT 1 and CBT 2

CBT 1: Screening

Time: 90 minutes, or 120 minutes for PwBD candidates eligible for a scribe. CBT 1 only decides who sits CBT 2: candidates are shortlisted at 15 times the vacancies of each community at each board.

CBT 2: Decides Merit

Time: 90 minutes, or 120 minutes for eligible PwBD candidates.

Negative Marking and Qualifying Marks

• One third of a mark is deducted for each wrong answer in both CBTs.
• Minimum qualifying marks: 40% for UR and EWS, 30% for OBC (non-creamy layer) and SC, and 25% for ST. They may be relaxed by 2 marks for PwBD candidates if there are not enough candidates.
• Marks are normalised when a CBT runs in several shifts.
• Calculators and other electronic devices are not allowed.

After CBT 2

For CEN 06/2026, the typing skill test for Senior Clerk cum Typist and Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist has been dropped. Typing proficiency is assessed after joining instead, and it can affect confirmation or promotion.

Candidates are called for document verification and the medical examination at one per vacancy, board by board, in order of merit in CBT 2. Each post has its own medical standard: A2 for Goods Train Manager, B2 for Chief Commercial cum Ticket Supervisor and C2 for the two typist posts.

Questions are available in English, Hindi and 13 regional languages: Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. The chosen language is shown together with English.
