How KPSC Recruitment Works

KPSC is a public service commission. It advertises posts on behalf of government departments, conducts the written exams and interviews, and recommends selected candidates. The appointment itself is then made by the department concerned.

Its larger exams usually have a preliminary stage for shortlisting, a main written stage and an interview. Specialist posts are often filled through a single exam or by shortlisting on qualifications, followed by an interview.

Preparing for KPSC Recruitment

Commission exams reward depth. Start with the official syllabus and the last few years' question papers, which KPSC usually publishes on its website. For a state commission, give real time to the state's history, geography, economy and current schemes, which ordinary general studies books cover thinly.

If the exam has a descriptive main stage, practise writing answers to a word limit and a time limit well before the preliminary result. Interviews test clarity and awareness more than memorised facts.

Pay and Benefits at KPSC

Posts filled through KPSC are paid by the department that makes the appointment, on the pay matrix of the government concerned. Officer posts usually start high on the matrix, and every notice states the pay level or scale of each post.

Selected candidates serve a probation period, often two years for officer posts, and get the usual government benefits: dearness allowance, house rent allowance, leave, medical cover and a pension scheme.
