About Exam Dates

Keeping Track of Exam Dates

Recruiting bodies announce exam dates in a schedule or a separate notice. UPSC and SSC also publish yearly exam calendars, which give tentative dates months in advance. Dates sometimes change because of clashes with other exams or for administrative reasons, so always rely on the latest notice on the official website.

Large exams are often held over several days and shifts. Your own date, shift and centre will be on your admit card.

Planning Around Exam Dates

  • Note the dates of every exam you have applied for, so that clashes are spotted early. Recruiting bodies sometimes allow a change of date if two of their own exams clash, but rarely for exams run by different bodies.
  • Watch for the exam city slip, which usually comes a week or two ahead and helps with travel bookings.
  • Plan your revision to peak just before the exam, with full mock tests in the last few weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are exam calendar dates final?

No. Annual calendars are tentative. The final date is the one in the exam notice or on your admit card.
