The Public Service Commission, West Bengal is hiring for Lower Division Assistant and Lower Division Clerk posts in the Secretariat, Directorates and district offices across West Bengal. The number of posts has not been announced yet. Candidates with a Madhyamik or equivalent pass, computer typing skills and Bengali ability are likely eligible. Online applications close on 26 October 2026 at 3:30 PM. Apply early in the window so that any portal problems can be fixed during the edit window.

Who Should Apply for WBPSC Clerkship 2024

This suits Madhyamik-passed candidates who can type on a computer and read, write and speak Bengali, unless their mother tongue is Nepali; candidates from other states may assume they qualify for reservation, but the notice gives reservation only to West Bengal candidates.

Watch Out Before You Apply

  • Keep your Madhyamik certificate ready, because it is the only accepted proof of age; upload a PDF of it under 100 kb if your claim needs it.

WBPSC Clerkship 2024 Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

  • Passed Madhyamik examination of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education or equivalent
  • Elementary computer knowledge with typing speed of 20 wpm in English or 10 wpm in Bengali

Age Limit

18 to 45 years (as on 1 Jan 2024)

Age Relaxation

  • SC/ST (West Bengal): 5 years
  • OBC non-creamy layer (West Bengal): 3 years
  • PwBD: upper limit relaxable up to 45 years
  • Ex-Servicemen: as per rules stated in the notice

WBPSC Clerkship 2024 Salary and Pay Scale

The pay level is Level 6, with a starting basic pay of ₹22,700, plus D.A., M.A. and H.R.A. as per ROPA, 2019.

As printed in the notification: Level 6, Rs.22,700/- to 58,500/- besides D.A., M.A. and H.R.A. admissible as per ROPA, 2019.

WBPSC Clerkship 2024 Selection Process

  1. Part-I (Objective Type) examination
  2. Part-II (Conventional Type - Written) examination for limited candidates qualifying Part-I
  3. Test of elementary computer knowledge and typing, judged after qualifying Part-I and Part-II
  4. Final merit list based on total marks of Part-I and Part-II

What Happens After Selection

Selected candidates are engaged on the terms set out in the notice, usually for a fixed period with a fixed monthly remuneration.

Can candidates from other states apply for reserved posts?

The notification says SC, ST and OBC candidates of other states are treated as general candidates, and EWS candidates of other states are also treated as general candidates.

Does a candidate from another state pay the general fee?

Yes. The notification says there is no fee exemption for SC and ST candidates of other states, and the general fee of Rs.110 plus service charges applies.

Is there negative marking in the exam?

Yes. The notification says 0.25 marks are deducted for each wrong answer in multiple choice questions.

Can a candidate with a disability use a scribe?

Yes, if the candidate has a benchmark disability with limitation in writing, a certificate from a government health institution, and the scribe is arranged before applying. The notification also allows 20 minutes of compensatory time per hour.

Can I change my caste or category claim after applying?

No. The notification says no claim for being a member of a reserved category will be entertained after final submission of the application.
