South Eastern Railway is hiring 2 Group C staff under the Cultural Quota, in Kolkata. There is one post each for Classical Dance and Instrumental Music, at Level-2 of the 7th CPC pay matrix. Eligibility needs a 12th pass (or 10th plus ITI/NAC) and a degree, diploma or certificate in your discipline from a government-recognised institute. Applications close on 16 November 2026. Who Should Apply for SER Cultural Quota 2026

SER Cultural Quota 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

  • Passed 12th or equivalent with not less than 50% marks in aggregate from Government recognized Education Board (50% not insisted for SC/ST/ESM and PwBD candidates and those with higher UGC-recognized qualification), OR Passed 10th from recognized Board plus ITI/NAC approved by NCVT for Technician Grade-III in Level-2 of Pay Matrix of 7th CPC (Diploma in Engineering not considered an alternative), AND Degree/Diploma/Certificate course in respective discipline only from Government recognized University/Institute.

Age Relaxation

  • Candidates not possessing the prescribed Cultural Qualification need not apply.
  • Preference to candidates with experience on All India Radio/Doordarshan and awards/prizes at National Level in applied discipline.
  • Medical fitness in the prescribed category by Railway Medical Authority is mandatory.
  • Clerk-cum-Typist: typing proficiency 30 w.p.m. English or 25 w.p.m. Hindi within two years of appointment.

Income tax, CGHS and other deductions are not included, and allowances depend on the posting. Government accommodation replaces HRA. Pay rises by about 3% with each annual increment. Work out pay at a later stage.

SER Cultural Quota 2026 Selection Process

  3. Stage II candidates called in ratio 1:5 of vacancies on Stage I merit

  2. Register with personal details; note registration number and password sent by email/SMS.

What Happens After Selection

Candidates who make the final merit list after the stages listed above (4 in all) have their original documents checked and go through a medical examination.

The appointing department then verifies character and antecedents, usually through the police, and issues an offer of appointment with the joining date and place of posting.

New appointees usually serve a probation period, often one to two years, during which there may be induction training, before being confirmed in service.

Can final-year students apply?

The notification does not say. It requires the qualifications at the time of submitting the application, so check with the Railway Recruitment Cell.

Is there negative marking in the written test?

Yes. One-third of the marks for a question are deducted for every incorrect answer. The test has 50 marks and lasts 60 minutes.

Do I need a candidate's cultural certificate in a language other than English or Hindi?

Certificates in other languages need an attested English or Hindi translation uploaded with them.

Is the refundable fee returned if I do not attend the written test?

No. The refundable part is returned only to candidates who actually appear in the written examination, and you must indicate your refund choice in the form.
