Northern Railway is hiring 27 candidates through its Scouts and Guides quota, for Group C (Level 2, 5 posts) and Group D (Level 1, 22 posts). Eligibility needs a 10th or 12th pass with the right certificate, plus Scouts or Guides qualifications. The online application closes on 6 December 2026. Who Should Apply for Northern Railway Scouts Guides Quota 2026
This suits candidates with a 12th pass (50% or more) for Group C, or a 10th pass with ITI or NAC for Group D, who also hold a President's Scout/Guide/Rover/Ranger or Himalaya Wood Badge; a graduate without these Scouting credentials does not qualify.

Watch Out Before You Apply
- Each level needs its own application form and its own examination fee, so pay twice if you apply for both.

- If you already work for the government, upload an NOC from your employer, or your application is rejected.
- Upload a photograph in full Scout and Guide uniform, with cap. Photos without it are not accepted.

Northern Railway Scouts Guides Quota 2026 Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
- Group C: Passed 12th (+2 stage) from recognized board with not less than 50% marks in aggregate, OR Matriculation plus Course Completed Act Apprenticeship or ITI approved by NCVT/SCVT for technician categories. Group D: 10th passed + National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) granted by NCVT, OR 10th pass + ITI, OR 10th Pass or ITI or equivalent or NAC granted by NCVT.
- Scouting qualification: President Scouts/Guide/Rover/Ranger or Himalaya Wood Badge holder; active member of a Scouts organization for last 5 years; attended two events at National Level or All Indian Railway's level and two events at State level.

- Level 1: basic pay ₹18,000, gross about ₹31,662 (Z city) to ₹35,973 (X city).
Income tax, CGHS and other deductions are not included, and allowances depend on the posting. Government accommodation replaces HRA. Pay rises by about 3% with each annual increment. Work out pay at a later stage.

What Happens After Selection
Candidates who make the final merit list after the stages listed above (5 in all) have their original documents checked and go through a medical examination.
The appointing department then verifies character and antecedents, usually through the police, and issues an offer of appointment with the joining date and place of posting.
New appointees usually serve a probation period, often one to two years, during which there may be induction training, before being confirmed in service.

Northern Railway Scouts Guides Quota 2026: Frequently Asked Questions
Can I apply if I only have a Scout badge but no 12th pass?
No. The notification requires the minimum education qualification for your post, and the Scouts qualification is in addition to it. No relaxation is allowed in education or Scouts and Guides qualification.
Is there negative marking in the written test?
Yes. Each wrong objective answer loses one-third of the marks allotted to that question.
Do I need to appear in person for document verification?
Yes. Bring original documents and one set of self-attested copies on the day, or you will not be allowed into the selection. Verification and the written test are held in Delhi only.
Do I have to pay the full fee to apply?
The notification gives two fee amounts. SC/ST, Ex-Serviceman, PwBD, transgender, women, minority and economically backward candidates pay less, and most of the fee is refunded if you appear for the written exam.
Can I get reservation if I come from another state?
The notification does not say whether reservation depends on domicile. Check the official notice or contact the RRC before applying.
