Choosing Jobs by Qualification

Minimum, Not Exact

Government notices state a minimum qualification. If a post asks for 12th pass, a graduate can usually apply too. So start with the page for the highest qualification you hold, then look at the levels below it.

Some posts ask for a qualification in a specific subject or trade, such as science in Class 12, a particular ITI trade, or a degree in commerce. A higher qualification in an unrelated subject does not replace it.

The Cut-Off Date for Your Result

Most notices require you to hold the qualification by the closing date or another date they name. If your result is pending, read the eligibility section for whether you can apply provisionally. Many recruitments do not allow it.

How We Place Jobs on These Pages

A recruitment appears on a qualification page when that qualification meets the minimum for at least one of its posts. A recruitment with several posts can appear on more than one page, so always check the post-wise eligibility in the notification.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have a degree. Should I look at 10th and 12th pass jobs?

You can. Most notices accept higher qualifications, so graduates often apply for clerical and constable posts. A few posts, mainly some Group D roles in certain states, set a maximum education level. The notification will say so.

Does a qualification earned through distance learning count?

Degrees and diplomas from recognised universities and institutions are generally accepted, including through distance and open learning, provided the programme was approved for the year you studied. Some technical posts accept only regular-mode qualifications, which the notification will say.

My result is pending. Can I still apply?

Only if the notification allows it. Some recruitments, such as several UPSC and SSC exams, accept final-year students who can show their result by a set date. Others need the qualification on the closing date.

Do certificates from open schools count?

Certificates from recognised boards, including the National Institute of Open Schooling and state open schools, are generally treated as equivalent. Check the notification for any specific condition.
