Preparing
UPSC CMS and state medical officer exams are built on the MBBS syllabus, with medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics and community medicine carrying most of the marks. Revising for a postgraduate entrance exam covers much of the same ground.
Age Limit and Applying for Medical Officer Jobs
There is no single age limit for medical officer posts: each notification sets the minimum and maximum age for its own posts, the date on which age is counted and the documents to upload. Central government recruitment covers the standard age relaxations, the documents most recruiters ask for and how the online application works; state recruiters set their own relaxations.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are senior resident posts permanent?
No. Senior residency is a fixed-term post, usually up to three years, and is valued as teaching experience for faculty posts.
Is UPSC CMS tough?
CMS is competitive, with a limited number of posts each year, but it tests the MBBS syllabus you already know. Regular revision and previous papers are the key.
Do government doctors get non-practising allowance?
Many central and state services pay a non-practising allowance to doctors who do not do private practice. The rules differ by service.
